Aya Brackett was born and raised in a traditional Japanese house, off
the grid in the mountains of Northern California and now lives in
Berkeley, California. She studied painting as a child and received a
BA in Photography and Visual Arts at Brown University and Rhode Island
School of Design.
Her work draws heavily on an appreciation of still life painting and
often incorporates themes of food and the natural world. One series,
"Between Meals," looks at the remnants and arrangements of food as it
exists in states of preparation, consumption and decay. İHer work has
appeared in many galleries, in the permanent collection of the Crocker
Art Museum, and numerous publications including Dwell, Gastronomica
and the London Sunday Telegraph Magazine. She has been chosen as one
of Photo District New's 30 2008 Emerging Photographer to Watch. More
of her work can be viewed at www.ayabrackett.com.
